After you complete your beginners’ course, we’d love you to join Aquarius and become part of the club.
To get started, please speak to our Membership Secretary, complete your membership form and pay the club fee. If you completed your beginners’ course elsewhere, or you are already an experienced archer, we’ll invite you for a short assessment with one of our qualified coaches before joining.
You do not need to sign up to Archery GB in advance. If you are new, we will register you as part of joining, and the AGB fee is included in your membership.
Already an Archery GB member? No problem. We’ll simply verify your membership and you’ll pay the club fee only.
Probation Period
All new members complete a minimum three-month probationary period, whether they are new to archery or already experienced.
This gives you time to settle in, meet other members, get to know how the club works and show that you can shoot safely and responsibly before being given independent access to the grounds.
After a successful probation period, adult members may purchase club keys and use the club facilities throughout the week.
You can read more about our probation period and what it involves here.
Junior Members
Juniors usually shoot on Saturdays at 12 noon.
For safety and insurance purposes, juniors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while shooting and supervised by a qualified adult archer.
Additional shooting times may be available by arrangement with a coach.
Member Resources & Communication
Once you join, you’ll have access to our members’ website, where you can find useful club information, documents, resources and event details.
We also use our members’ WhatsApp groups to share updates, arrange shooting times, ask questions and stay connected with club life. They’re a great way to get involved, especially when you’re new.
Archery GB & Insurance
Club membership includes affiliation fees and insurance through:
Archery GB membership allows you to shoot at recognised archery venues in the UK and abroad, where covered by Archery GB or World Archery.
Rules of Shooting
All members must read and follow Archery GB’s Rules of Shooting before shooting at the club.
Your insurance as an archer depends on following these rules, so it’s important to familiarise yourself with them.
Handicaps, Classifications & Records
Aquarius operates under the Archery GB handicap and classification schemes through our Records Officer.
Submitting scores regularly is a great way to track your progress, earn classifications and badges, and get more involved in club and competition shooting.
You can read more about these schemes in Archery GB’s administration documents, available from the Archery GB website.
Bow Styles
Aquarius is a target archery club.
Our members mainly shoot:
- Recurve
- Barebow
- Longbow
- Other traditional bow styles
We do not allow crossbows or compound bows at the club for safety reasons.
Equipment
After completing your beginners’ course and joining the club, you’ll be encouraged to purchase your own equipment from a recommended archery dealer.
A basic beginner kit usually costs from around £150. Coaches and experienced members will be happy to advise you on suitable equipment before you buy, so please speak to us first.
We strongly recommend not buying equipment before completing your course or speaking with a coach.
Improver Training
Training continues after you join.
We run Improver sessions on Saturdays at 11.00 am, year-round and subject to coach availability. These sessions are aimed at newer members, but are open to members at all levels.
There is no additional charge for Improver sessions.
Competition Shooting
When you feel ready, there are lots of opportunities to try competition shooting.
Aquarius enters postal, county and league competitions, and many of our members also attend open tournaments across London and the South East. It’s a great way to meet other archers, build confidence and participate in the wider archery community.
The club has an Aquarius team shirt in blue and yellow, which members may choose to wear at competitions.
Indoor Shooting
From the beginning of October to the end of March, the club runs indoor shooting sessions at a hired venue.
These sessions are usually held on Thursday evenings from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm. A £10 session fee applies to help cover venue hire.
Visiting archers from other clubs are welcome, provided they are current Archery GB members.
